Rosacea is a common skin disorder characterized by facial redness. It may initially come and go, but may also develop to become persistent redness or red lines. In some cases rosacea may emerge with additional symptoms such as small red bumps, dry or tearing eyes, stinging and burning sensations, and in some severe cases, a red and enlarged nose (Rhinophyma).

Causes of Rosacea

Flushing is a basic part of rosacea, so experts believe that blood vessels may be a key cause. Though the exact cause of rosacea is still unknown, some common factors that may trigger its development include: genetic predisposition, vitamin-B deficiency, temperature change, spicy food, alcohol, cigarettes, drugs, stress and other skin disorders.

Laser Rosacea Treatment

Many people mistakenly think rosacea is just a skin problem that will go away slowly by itself, but it may actually become worse and more visible if left untreated.

Home remedies such as topical therapy and oral treatments are widely available, but it is important that you consult a doctor before trying to treat your rosacea at home. Your condition may be more complex than expected. Unfortunately, about 90% of our patients are those who have had disappointing experience with rosacea treatment of home remedies, they found that anti-flushing creams and oral antibiotics simply didn’t work.

Fortunately, advances in light technology have given us many effective solutions for treating even severe cases of rosacea. Laser rosacea treatment and IPL rosacea treatment has been proven in clinical studies to be very effective in improving the appearance of rosacea, especially for the facial redness. At Q Esthetics Laser Clinic, we are proud to utilize the award winning laser system to treat rosacea for most patients, and use light therapy to treat rosacea for some darker or sensitive skin types.

Rosacea Treatment F.A.Q. & Related Links

How does the laser rosacea treatment work?

To clear rosacea, a specific wavelength of light is absorbed by the blood vessels and quickly converted to heat. The sudden rise of temperature breaks down and damages the lesion. The damaged blood vessels are absorbed and carried away by the lymphatic system, eventually removing the appearance of rosacea from the skin.

In most cases, the results of laser rosacea treatments are permanent. However, we recommend the use of sunscreen to limit exposure to the sunlight in order to prevent further damage.

Are there any side effects?

There may be a slight reddening in the treated area immediately after the laser rosacea treatment, but this usually disappears shortly. Make-up can be applied following the procedure. You should avoid sun exposure for 24-48 hours and moisturize the treated area.
