Kenallog Injections
Kenallog is a cortisone steroid injection; it works by decreasing the body’s immune response to reduce symptoms such as swelling. Kenallog injections are commonly used intradermally to treat skin lesions such as keloid scarring, deep cystic acne and alopecia areata.
Kenallog Injections For Keloid
Keloid is a type of scar typically characterized by tissue overgrowth often in the form of a smooth raised area that is pink or purple in colour. During the wound-healing process fibroblasts (a type of cell in our connective tissue) synthesizes the protein collagen, to stimulate the wound healing process. In the case of keloids, the fibroblasts produce far more collagen than what’s typically needed, and the scar continues to grow beyond the area of the original wound.

Symptoms of Keloid
area that is flesh-colored, pink or red in color
a lumpy or ridged area of skin
an area that continues to grow larger with scar tissue over time
itchy patch of skin which may cause pain and discomfort
Who gets keloid?
Anyone can get a keloid scar. Though according to the National Institutes of Health (NIH), they most commonly develop in people between 10 and 20 years of age, and of African American, Asian, or Hispanic descent. There does also appear to be a genetic predisposition, if it runs in your family there is an increased risk.
Why do they occur?
Any skin trauma can cause a keloid such as piercings, acne, scratches or surgical scarring.
Keloid Treatment
Keloids don’t usually resolve when left untreated and have a very high reoccurrence rate. A combination therapy of kenalog injections and laser scar removal is the preferred treatment option at Q Esthetics Laser Clinic and has been shown to have the most significant impact when treating this type of scar.
Kenallog Injections for Acne
Kenallog can also be injected directly into acne or pimples at the sign of a breakout to reduce the infection, redness, and swelling almost immediately. While this quick fix is perfect at the onset of a pre-event breakout, it’s only reducing the symptom and not treating acne at the source – or preventing future breakouts from occurring. Like the treatment of a keloid, it’s especially important when treating acne to follow a holistic approach. Kenallog injections are often used in conjunction with laser acne, light therapy, chemical peels, and a medical grade skincare regimen in order to achieve the best results.

Kenallog Injections for Hair Loss
Alopecia areata is a very common and distressing hair loss condition that effects both men and women of all ages. The condition most often affects the scalp, beard, or brows, causing patches of hair loss and is attributed to an autoimmune disorder.
Despite the hair loss symptoms associated with alopecia, hair re-growth is usually possible. The affected hair follicles are still functional though awaiting the appropriate signal in order to jumpstart their recovery process. Hair color and texture can also be restored though multiple treatments are generally recommended especially if the condition is severe or recurring.
At Q Esthetics Laser Clinic we specialize in various treatments for hair loss including kenalog injections that work to prevent white blood cells from attacking the hair follicles in order to help speed up hair re-growth. During your assessment one of our skilled professional will be able to assess your concerns and determine the ideal program to help you reach your hair goals.
