Microdermabrasion

Age, sun, diet and environment are a few of the factors that lead to skin deterioration on the face and other parts of the body. Now with microdermabrasion, there is a safe and gentle way to help rejuvenate, smooth and repair your skin.

Microdermabrasion is ideal for both men and women seeking to turn back the effects of time and desiring healthy, younger-looking skin. This treatment is for people who are unwilling to undergo existing laser or chemical treatments. Microdermabrasion is one of the most common treatments at Q Esthetics Laser Clinic.

Why We Need Microdermabrasion

Microdermabrasion

The microdermabrasion can help to improve the appearance of the following skin conditions:

Sun damaged skin in need of rejuvenation
Aging skin showing lines, wrinkles and age spots
Hyper-pigmentation marks such stretch marks
Some acne scarring and acne skin

How microdermabrasion works

Microdermabrasion is a gentle, non-invasive skin resurfacing procedure. Dead and damaged cells are removed from the skins surface; encouraging new skin cells to develop, leading to soft and smooth skin. The secret is its unique multiple-elements approach; combining ‘Abralase’ (the infrared light) to erase 10-100 microns of epidermis, and ‘Vacusound’ which utilizes moderate suction and calibrates ultrasound waves in order to improve vascular and lymphatic circulation.

Microdermabrasion for ingrown hair

Ingrown hairs are hairs that have grown back into your skin rather than rising up and going through the skin, producing a raised red bump, sometimes mistaken for a pimple. Often caused by shaving, these bumps can irritate the skin and their appearance may cause embarrassment. Although they are not serious, they may cause pain, itching or redness. Individuals with curly or coarse hair are more likely to develop ingrown hairs as curly hair can turn downwards rather than up towards the skin.

Microdermabrasion is an effective treatment for ingrown hairs, as it targets and removes the dead outer layer of skin. This exfoliation clears hair follicles, allowing the trapped hair to surface. Regular microdermabrasion treatments can also help prevent ingrown hairs from developing, resulting in smoother and softer skin.

Microdermabrasion has been renowned as an effective cosmetic treatment, resulting in noticeably improved skin texture, tone and colour.

Microdermabrasion for Stretch Marks

If you’ve gained or lost weight due to pregnancy or other factors, stretch marks may appear as a result – most commonly found on the breasts, stomach, thighs, buttocks and arms. Stretch marks are streaks or linear marks on the skin, which are a different shade than the surrounding skin. These stubborn lines can be very difficult to get rid of and as a result of genetics, they may be impossible to prevent. Many young people develop them when going through a dramatic growth spurt or from rapid weight gain. They typically begin as a purple or reddish colour, demonstrating the damage or tear in the deeper layer of the skin’s fabric. Over time they fade to pale silvery or purple marks and show mostly as textural irregularities on the skin’s surface.

At Q Esthetics Laser Clinics, we use microdermabrasion to reduce the appearance of stretch marks. While many think of microdermabrasion as a treatment exclusively for the face, it can be used to combat skin problems on the body as well. This treatment is most effective when used in conjunction with anti-aging facials, silk peel, fractional laser or PicoSure laser.

Like laser resurfacing, which targets damages skin cells while facilitating the production of new and more even skin, microdermabrasion also encourages the production of collagen in the skin. As a result, it can improve the elasticity in skin, which helps reduce the appearance of stretch marks.

What can I expect during and after microdermabrasion?

Following microdermabrasion, your skin may feel tight. The exfoliating treatment may cause flaking of the skin, so you should moisturize post-procedure. Depending on the area being treated, the treatment typically takes 15 to 30 minutes. Approximately six sessions at 2-4 week intervals are usually recommended to achieve optimal results. However, prior to an event, just one treatment can provide glowing and smooth results. This simple and safe procedure requires no downtime so you can resume normal day-to-day activities immediately after the treatment. Sunscreen should be applied liberally to treated areas.
