Light therapy is fast becoming one of the most promising, multi-faceted and non-invasive health and beauty treatments available. Light therapy for the skin, also known as photo therapy or photo-bio stimulation, and is a powerful yet gentle skin care technology which has gained extensive popularity as an anti-aging, hair growth and acne solution.Scientific research has demonstrated that light energy at certain frequencies can effectively stimulate specific, beneficial physiological functions of the skin. Low-energy light technology like LEDs- Light Emitting Diodes- also deliver energy to skin in such a way that it stimulates a healing response from the skin’s cells in order to heal damage.

The various colours of light on the spectrum each have their own benefits and targets when treating the skin. Red light is considered to be very anti-aging. Red stimulates fibroblast activity, thereby boosting collagen and elastin, making the skin tighter and younger looking. NASA’s has actually demonstrated through its own medical experiments that red light at 633 nm increases the production of collagen by five times. Collagen is the protein responsible for maintaining the skin’s elasticity as well as repairing damaged skin cells. The red light helps to increase blood by carrying oxygen to the skin, which increases cellular metabolism and strengthens capillary walls. Because of the benefits for blood flow, red light is also an excellent treatment for scarring and inflammation after surgical procedures, trauma, acne or rosacea.
The blue light is typically utilized for the treatment of acne*. Blue LED light 460nm is FDA approved for acne treatment because it targets bacteria. Acne develops from an abnormal number of bacteria, mainly Propionibacterium acnes (P. acne), which leads to inflammatory conditions. Narrow-band, high-intensity blue light targets the organic compound, Porphyrin. When it is exposed to the blue light, Porphyrin helps kill the bacteria responsible for acne. Blue light is effective even in some cases where inflammatory acne vulgaris does not respond to other acne treatments. Blue light acne therapy is safe for darker skin and non-invasive*.
Green LED light, 525 nm, utilizes low intensity green light to reverse the effects of aging while improving skin cell turn over and natural exfoliation. It can treat pigment issues related to sun damage or other skin changes as a result of broad absorption; by a spectrum of melanin, solar lentigines and freckles – all while providing a hydrating effect. The green light works to lighten hyper pigmentation marks on the complexion; concerning the face, neck, chest and hands. It boosts cell growth, which enables skin to repair and replace darkened areas with bright, glowing skin. Test subjects in studies reported hydration and overall lifting of the skin, improved tone and texture, and smoothing of fine lines. This light can also be effective in the treatment and lightening of scars.
The amber light is used to treat sunburns and reduce the appearance of redness, swelling or other inflammatory conditions, such as, rosacea and eczema. Amber or yellow light therapy is considered generally rejuvenating as well, and provides a smoothing effect- useful in combination with anti-aging treatments.
The infra-red light, 880nm, is invisible and is built in within the red light panel and red light hand held device. It works synergistically for photo rejuvenation, providing maximum anti-aging rejuvenation in combination with red light. This treatment is most effective for deep lines and wrinkles, because infra-red light is well absorbed within fibro-myocytes in the skin, and promotes alignment in newly produced collagen bundles. The effect is to smooth, plump and even the skin’s texture. The combination of lights maximizes collagen production, increases skin oxygenation and removes toxins to reveal healthy, glowing skin. Red light therapy is also beneficial for increasing blood flow (microcirculation) in the scalp to stimulate metabolism in catagen or telogen follicles for improved hair growth. Red light has demonstrated stimulation of epidermal stem cells in the hair follicle into anagen phase, which means longer and stronger hair growth phases.

What can I expect during and after the treatment?
This leading edge cosmetic enhancement technology is safe, non-invasive, non-surgical and carries a multitude of health and beauty benefits. Clinical effects of light therapy can include*:
• Increased circulatory health. It stimulates the formation of new capillaries, which replace those that have been damaged and speed up the body’s natural healing process. An abundance of healthy capillaries carry more oxygen and nutrients to sites in the body where they are needed as well as allowing for more efficient waste removal.
• Light therapy can increase RNA and DNA synthesis- aiding in the production of healthy new cells and replacement of damaged cells.
• Light therapy stimulates mitochondria, which are the cells power source – helping in all their functions.
• It can increase lymphatic system activity through increasing the lymph vessel diameter and improving the flow of the lymph system. Efficient lymphatic function aids in the body’s inflammatory responses and speeds healing, therefore light therapy can be particularly helpful when recovering from cosmetic procedures.
