What Is Ultherapy?
Ultherapy is a safe ultrasound energy treatment, designed to improve the appearance of lines and wrinkles. This treatment sends ultrasound waves deep into the skin, which delivers a non-invasive lift, thus transform the face, neck and décolletage. With cutting-edge technologies and a team including board-certified dermatologist, we provide effective ultherapy to thousands of our patients in the Greater Toronto Area.
As we age, our skin loses its natural collagen, which causes fine lines and wrinkles. If you are feeling discouraged by fine lines, crow’s feet, drooping brows, or sagging skin, and tired of the empty promises of some anti-aging products, Ultherapy may be the ideal solution for you. Ultrasound technology has been safely used for over 50 years. The use of ultrasound imaging means the practitioner will be able to clearly see the targeted area and ensure it is treated effectively. It uses safe ultrasound energy to naturally lift and tighten the skin, slowing the signs of aging in the process. As a non-surgical solution, Ultherapy is a non-invasive way to rejuvenate your face with no downtime.
Am I a candidate for Ultherapy?
A good candidate of ultherapy is someone who is experiencing signs of aging such as a lowered eyebrow line, sagging skin on the eyelids or loose skin under the neck and chin. Typically, those in their thirties and older who have mild to moderate skin laxity are candidates.
While Ultherapy is not a replacement for a surgical facelift, it may be an option for those not ready for surgery, or those looking for a less invasive option with little downtime.
What areas can be treated with Ultherapy?
Under Eye: the under eye area is often one of the first to show signs of aging. While there are a number of products that claim to target this area, their effects are minimal at best. Ultherapy, on the other hand, works to smooth skin, lift and reduce fine lines and wrinkles.
Upper Face: Smiling, laughing and raising your brows help to communicate feelings and convey messages. However, these expressions also cause us to develop lines over time. The forehead, crow’s feet and laugh lines are typically the first signs of aging. Ultherapy can targets these areas effectively.
Lower Face: our cheeks, jaw line, chin and jowls will gradually begin to droop with age. Decreased production of collagen causes areas that were once firm and smooth to sag and appear crepey. Ultherapy can transform this area by breaking down some of the cells and encouraging the growth of collagen.
Neck: like the face, the neck ages over time, but is often neglected when it comes to skin care. In fact, since the skin on the neck tends to be much thinner, it tends to show the signs of aging quicker. Ultherapy can work to reducing wrinkles and invigorate the neck and upper chest.
Décolletage: like our face, the skin on our chest is often exposed to the sun, which takes its toll over time. Ultherapy successfully lifts the décolletage, reduces fine lines, and enhances skin quality.
What results can I expect?
Patients have reported experiencing a rejuvenated feeling and appearance following treatment. There is no downtime, and makeup can be applied afterwards to counter any redness. Patients are also able to resume their normal skin care regimen following treatment.
Although Ultherapy cannot stop the aging process, it causes the production of collagen over time, so optimal results are most visible after 3 to 6 months following treatment. Post touch-up treatments can also help combat the aging process.
How is Ultherapy performed?
Collagen is a natural protein that gives skin its youthfulness, by keeping it firm and toned. Unfortunately, as we age, collagen loses its strength and its ability to stand up to the effects of gravity that pull the skin downward. Ultherapy uses focused ultrasound to generate a thermal affect under the skin. The thermal affect essentially jumpstarts a repair process that strengthens existing collagen and produces fresh, new collagen. The procedure can take anywhere from one to three hours, depending on how many areas are treated. There is no downtime, but some patients have mentioned minimal bruising, as well as tenderness in the face and neck post-treatment.
Most people describe it as warm but not painful. This sensation is temporary, and is a positive signal that the collagen-building process has been initiated. Although there may be slight redness following the treatment, this will dissipate within an hour or so. A small percentage of patients may experience slight swelling, bruising, or tenderness to touch, but these side effects are mild and temporary in nature.
