PicoSure Laser Skin Rejuvenation F.A.Q.

What skin conditions can PicoSure laser help to improve?
How does PicoSure laser Work?

Traditional lasers typically use heat to target the tissue in hopes of rejuvenating skin, but PicoSure instead uses its revolutionary Presure Wave and Focus Lens to activate the skin cell’s natural renewal process, which can minimize injury, discomfort and scarring.

When cells in our body are injured, they communicate by releasing a natural protein to signal a healing response to other healthy cells. PicoSure laser stimulates this natural process by using high density of light energy. In doing so, the cells’ inflammatory healing response is initiated, and new collagen and elastin are created in return.

Only PicoSure can lighten unwanted sun spots, freckles, or other discoloration, while stimulating the production of new collagen and elastin at the very same time.

How long do treatments usually take?

PicoSure laser skin rejuvenation treatments typically take around 15-30 minutes, depending on the area being treated.

How many PicoSure laser treatments will I need?

The number of treatment depends on the individual and the condition being treated. Some will notice a dramatic improvement in their skin tone after just one PicoSure treatment, although multiple treatments (usually a series of 3-4, every 2-4 weeks) often provide the best results.

Does PicoSure Laser hurt?

Most people experience no pain during PicoSure laser treatments, and describe the feeling similar to the snap of a thin elastic or rubber band. Although not usually needed, numbing cream may be provided among request – to minimize any discomfort.

PicoSure Laser Tattoo Removal

PicoSure is a non-ablative technology that delivers the same dramatic results as ablative procedures, with none of the associated redness, burns or downtime. In addition, because of its targeted action, fewer treatments are required. What once took 10-16 treatments, can now take just 3-4 with PicoSure laser tattoo removal technology.

As laser light is absorbed, it is quickly converted to heat. The laser beam will be directed onto the tattoo, with the pulsed light then penetrating the skin’s surface (epidermis), to the inner layer (the dermis). The tattoo ink will absorb the energy from the laser, heat up and cause it to fragment into extremely small particles. Tattoo ink fragments are then carried away by the lymphatic system. Since it is only the tattoo dye that is targeted by the laser, there is minimal risk of scarring or skin damage with today’s laser tattoo removal.

Does Laser Tattoo Removal Hurt?

The laser light will selectively target the undesired ink or pigment, while leaving the other tissues largely unaffected; therefore, most patients report only minor discomfort. Many people compare the sensation of the pulses entering the skin, to the quick snap from a rubber band. If such “snaps” make you feel uncomfortable, we may offer you topical anesthesia. Most patients have experienced only minimal discomfort during the tattoo removal procedure with the Q-YAG 5 laser. The application of a topical anesthetic can be discussed during your consultation.

Are there any side effects with laser tattoo removal?
Side effects are rare with laser tattoo removal. When side effects such as increased sensitivity, hyperpigmentation, infection and pinpoint bleeding do occur, they are usually mild and confined to the treated area. Slight swelling and heat may be expected over the area for the first two days, and a crust or blister may form over the treated area. This will eventually disappear in the weeks following your treatment. The probability of these side effects occurring varies from person to person.

What are the alternative treatments?
It is possible to cover up an existing tattoo with another, however if you would rather fresh and unblemished skin – other tattoo removal techniques, such as dermabrasion, surgical skin excision, and skin grafts, can be very complicated and painful. There are topical creams and other solutions on the market that can either be injected or applied to the surface of the skin, however they are often ineffective or can be dangerous. Whereas surgical excision is likely to leave a scar , laser treatment is the only effective method that is unlikely to cause scarring.
