Laser Tattoo Removal

At Q Esthetics Laser Clinics , we provide state of the art laser tattoo removal treatments that yield excellent results, without peril and disadvantages of other procedures. Please call one of our three convenient clinics to schedule a complimentary consultation and find out how we can assist you.
Laser Tattoo removal is one of the most commonly performed procedures at Q Esthetics Laser Clinic. We remove tattoos of all sizes and ink colours safely and effectively, with the advanced Revlite and Picosure lasers.
The RevLite is a revolutionary Q-Switched Nd:YAG laser designed mainly for advanced tattoo removal. It features PhotoAcoustic Technology PulseTM or PTP. The RevLite SI exclusive PTP has a leading-edge method of dispersion of energy that delivers narrow pulse widths at maximum power, for efficient removal of unwanted tattoo pigment. Clinical studies have indicated that the PTP mode offers greater efficacy, and increased patient comfort, than previous Q Switch technologies. The highly focused beam of laser light passes harmlessly through the outer layer of the skin, and is absorbed primarily by the tattoo ink.

Laser

PicoSure, the world’s first aesthetic picosecond laser at Q Esthetics Laser Clinics in Toronto, is one of only a few of its kind in the GTA. It can remove all-colours of tattoo with a high degree of safety and minimal damage to skin, compared with older laser technology. PicoSure is a non-ablative technology that delivers the same dramatic results as ablative procedures, with none of the associated redness, burns or downtime. In addition, because of its targeted action, fewer treatments are required. What once took 12-16 treatments, can now take just 3-4 with Picosure advanced tattoo removal technology.

As laser light is absorbed, it is quickly converted to heat. The laser beam will be directed onto the tattoo, with the pulsed light then penetrating the skin’s surface (epidermis), to the inner layer (the dermis). The tattoo ink will absorb the energy from the laser, heat up and cause it to fragment into extremely small particles. Tattoo ink fragments are then carried away by the lymphatic system. Since it is only the tattoo dye that is targeted by the laser, there is minimal risk of scarring or skin damage with today’s laser tattoo removal.

How long does the laser tattoo removal procedure take?

Depending on the size and location of the tattoo or lesion, each treatment session typically takes about 10 to 30 minutes. Some tattoos may fade completely after only one treatment, though most require four or more treatments. Laser tattoo removal treatments are usually spaced 6 to 8 weeks apart, in order to give your body sufficient time to fully eliminate the loosened particles of tattoo ink or pigment. The number of sessions, and the time each patient needs between sessions, will depend on several factors; such as, where on the body the tattoo is located, the skin type and colour, the types of ink and colours used, how deep the ink is in the skin, the age of the tattoo, and the general health of the client. Complete tattoo removal may take as few as 3-4 and up to 12 sessions.

What Happens After Laser Tattoo removal?

Immediately after exposure to the YAG 5 laser, the treated areas may be sensitive, may become whitish-coloured or “frosted”, and may swell slightly; with the whiteness subsiding in about 30 minutes. The swelling may last longer, but can be reduced by cooling the skin with an ice pack. The tattoo will fade over the next few weeks, and there is little to no downtime related to laser tattoo removal. You should be able to get back to work or resume regular activities right away after the procedure. After each treatment, your skin may be red or feel sun burnt; however, each patient’s personal experience with treatment side effects will vary. It is important to follow the recovery care instructions provided to you by our specialists, who will ensure that you know what to expect as you proceed through your treatments.

Does Laser Tattoo Removal Hurt?

The laser light will selectively target the undesired ink or pigment, while leaving the other tissues largely unaffected; therefore, most patients report only minor discomfort. Many people compare the sensation of the pulses entering the skin, to the quick snap from a rubber band. If such “snaps” make you feel uncomfortable, we may offer you topical anesthesia. Most patients have experienced only minimal discomfort during the tattoo removal procedure with the Q-YAG 5 laser. The application of a topical anesthetic can be discussed during your consultation.

Are there any side effects with laser tattoo removal?
Side effects are rare with laser tattoo removal. When side effects such as increased sensitivity, hyperpigmentation, infection and pinpoint bleeding do occur, they are usually mild and confined to the treated area. Slight swelling and heat may be expected over the area for the first two days, and a crust or blister may form over the treated area. This will eventually disappear in the weeks following your treatment. The probability of these side effects occurring varies from person to person.

What are the alternative treatments?
It is possible to cover up an existing tattoo with another, however if you would rather fresh and unblemished skin – other tattoo removal techniques, such as dermabrasion, surgical skin excision, and skin grafts, can be very complicated and painful. There are topical creams and other solutions on the market that can either be injected or applied to the surface of the skin, however they are often ineffective or can be dangerous. Whereas surgical excision is likely to leave a scar , laser treatment is the only effective method that is unlikely to cause scarring.
