Toronto Laser Tattoo Removal
Does the tattoo you loved so much before now become the eye-sore you don't want to see any more? No worry, it doesn't have to stay with you for life! At Q Esthetics Laser Clinic, we can effectively and painlessly remove tattoos of all sizes and ink colors for you with the Palomar Q-YAG 5 laser.
The Palomar Q-YAG 5 is a revolutionary Q-Switched Nd:YAG Laser designed mainly for tattoo removal, with dual wavelengths to treat multiple tattoo colors simultaneously, flat beam profile to distribute energy evenly and effectively and three spot sizes to provide versatile options. It emits a highly focused beam of laser light, which passes harmlessly through the outer layer of the skin and is absorbed primarily by the tattoo ink.
As the light is absorbed, it is quickly converted to heat. The sudden rise in temperature fractures the ink into tiny particles. Tattoo ink fragments then are carried away by the lymphatic system. Since only the dye is targeted by the laser, there’s very little risk of scarring or skin damage.
F.A.Q. of Laser Tattoo Removal Treatment
What kinds of tattoo can be treated?
A tattoo's color, depth and chemical composition all affect how it responds to laser light. Though the Q-YAG 5 Laser works best on darker colours such as black, red, dark orange and dark blue, lighter colours such as green, purple, brown, light orange and light blue can also be eliminated effectively. However, it may require more treatments.
Does laser tattoo removal hurt?
Most patients report little discomfort. Many people compare the sensation of the pulses entering the skin to the quick snap from a rubber band. If such "snap" make you feel uncomfortable, we may offer you topical anesthesia. Most patients have experienced only minimal discomfort during the tattoo removal procedure with the Q-YAG 5 laser.
What happens after tattoo removal?
Immediately after laser exposure, the treated areas may be sensitive, may become whitish-colored and swell slightly. This whiteness subsides in about 30 minutes. The swelling may last longer, but can be reduced by cooling the skin with an ice pack. The tattoo will fade over the next few weeks.
There is little or no downtime related to laser tattoo removal. You should be able to get back to work or resume regular activities right away after the procedure.
How long does the tattoo removal procedure take?
It depends on the size and location of the tattoo or lesion, usually takes about 10 to 30 minutes. Some tattoos may fade completely after only one treatment, though most may require four or more treatments. Treatments are usually spaced 6 to 8 weeks apart to give your body sufficient time to fully eliminate the loosened particles of ink or pigment.
Are there any side effects?
Side effects are rare. When side effects such as increased sensitivity, hyperpigmentation, infection and pinpoint bleeding do occur, they are usually mild and confined to the treated area.
What are the alternative treatments?
Other methods of tattoo removal include surgical excision, salabrasion and chemical peels, however, laser treatment is the only effective method that is unlikely to cause any scarring.
