LASER HAIR REMOVAL

Are you experiencing unwanted hair and wish it could be more permanently removed? Tired of shaving, waxing or using chemical treatments to remove hair, only to have it grow right back? If so, you're not alone. Most of us wish to be permanently rid of hair on some portion of our body. Until recently, our options were limited and less than permanent. Lasers and Intense Pulsed-Light Systems (IPL's) are the new treatments of choice for removing that unwanted hair. With the Palomar Starlux 500 Pulsed-Light System, we can now quickly and conveniently rid you of unwanted hair on most body parts. Palomar is the first company to obtain FDA claim for "Permanant Hair Reduction", and we are one of the earliest users of this new technology in the GTA.

COMMON QUESTIONS

How does the Starlux 500 system work?

Pulsed-light systems work by emitting pulses of intense lamplight into the hair follicles. The light is absorbed by the pigment in the follicles and converted to heat. The heat then loosens the hair and disables the follicular cells responsible for growing new hair.

What's the difference between laser and pulsed-light treatments?

While both work in basically the same manner to remove hair, the Starlux 500 Pulsed-Light System uses a newer technology that allows it to remove hair up to 10 times faster than lasers.

Is it safe?

In our experience this system is the safest, most effective hair removal system available. Traditional waxing and threading treatments, which essentially rip the hair from the skin, can be quite painful. Most people, however, find the Starlux 500 to be significantly more comfortable. In addition, since the pulses of light penetrate the skin, you do not need to let your hair grow out before you are treated. With Starlux 500 treatments, you can remain virtually hair-free all the time!

What types of hair can be treated?

The system works on a wide range of hair types. Temporary hair loss almost always occurs after each treatment, regardless of hair color. However, the effectiveness for permanent hair reduction is strongly correlated with hair color. Darker hair is more effectively treated than light hair.

How long does the procedure take?

Thanks to its advanced, new technology, the Palomar Starlux 500 System works several times faster than other light-based hair removal systems. Smaller areas- such as the underarms, upper lip, or bikini line- can be treated in about five minutes. A woman's legs or a man's back can be treated in only about fifteen minutes!

How many treatments are necessary?

Some clients will benefit from only 2 to 3 treatment sessions. Usually 5 to 7 treatments are sufficient to achieve permanency.

What are the treatment sessions like?

Quick and easy! After your initial preparation, your treatment provider will move a wand-like hand-piece over your skin. The handpiece emits the light that disables the hair follicles. Most people perceive the light as a gentle "snapping" sensation. Once this is completed, the treatment provider will wipe away any loose hair from your skin, and you're ready to go.

What should most people expect after treatment?

Most people experience some mild redness and tenderness in the treated area shortly after treatment. This does not interfere with normal activities and usually subsides within a day. In some cases, the redness may last longer, but will still be mild and temporary. Your treatment provider will explain other, less likely side effects to you.

Are there restrictions after treatment?

Normal activities can be resumed immediately after treatment. All treated areas should be protected from sunlight between treatments and for several weeks after the final treatment. Makeup and self-tanning creams may be used as desired.

Who will perform the laser treatment?

Certified laser specialists perform the treatments in our office.

How much does the treatment cost?

The cost of treatment varies, depending primarily upon the size of the area you wish to have treated. At the time of your free consultation, we will be happy to give you an estimate as to the cost of the procedure. Laser hair removal is considered cosmetic in the vast majority of cases and is not covered by insurance. Package discounts are available.
