ACNE SKIN TREATMENT
Are you tired of unsuccessfully trying every medication available to get rid of your acne? Now there is a quick and easy way to clear up your skin. Our Palomar IPL System is quick, easy and almost painless. It is FDA approved, too! Most patients require just a few treatments to completely eliminate their acne problem, and after just one treatment, their skin is drastically improved.
The Palomar IPL System is the most powerful aesthetic light system in the world and the most expensive system made for pure pulsed light specialization. The award winning system use a filtering system to target acne at its root cause. It employs a broad spectrum of light to attack acne. The Palomar IPL System works on active acne by killing the P. acnes bacteria and it works in a separate manner on the sebaceous (oil) glands. It is often beneficial to individuals with very resistant acne who have not had success with medications. The LuxV short wavelength (400-700 nm) is ideal for absorption by porphyrins; this destroys p. acnes bacteria for a quick clearance of current acne breakouts. The longer wavelength (870-1200 nm) penetrates deeper into the hyperactive sebaceous glands and slows down their metabolism to prevent future acne from forming. In some cases IPL is used in conjunction with other cosmetic procedures to achieve the best results. Your specialist will advise you based upon evaluation of response of acne treatment.
COMMON QUESTIONS
What causes acne?
Acne occurs when the skin's sebaceous glands become overactive, creating cellular debris that plugs the glands. Bacteria accumulates in the blocked gland and the result is pimples, cysts and inflammation.
How the system works?
Pulses of concentrated light are directed onto the skin and absorbed by the bacteria and sebaceous glands. Pulsed light systems are similar to lasers, but with a larger, more diffuse beam for safe and comfortable treatments. The Palomar IPL System is an FDA-approved treatment that attacks acne on two fronts: 1. It kills acne-causing bacteria trapped in the sebaceous glands. 2. It heats up the sebaceous glands to decrease bacterial production, which would lead to future acne.
What are Treatments like?
The Pulsed-Light Treatment involves the use of a hand-held light wand that gently and quickly flashes a high-intensity light onto targeted areas of your skin. This light is delivered in a unique long pulse width that delivers energy to the skin over a relatively long period of time (for lasers, but in the blink of an eye for people ;-). This makes the pulses safer and more comfortable. You may experience a slight stinging, similar to being snapped with a rubber band, as you are being treated, but most people to not experience this as painful. You will wear protective goggles over your eyes during the procedure. Your skin may be slightly red after treatment. This temporary redness, which may look and feel like a slight sunburn, may last a few hours to a few days. It is recommended that you wear a sunscreen following treatment to protect your skin. After treatment, the acne blemishes shrink and become less noticeable and then fade after approximately one week.
